Supporting Organisational Critical Activities From Web Sites: An Evaluation Methodology Development

    Get PDF
quot; Organisational critical activities quot; (OCAs) are activities which must be conducted by the organisation constantly in order to be successful in the industry. They are recognised as being essential to short, medium, and long-term success in that industry, have been significantly resourced and receive regular senior management monitoring and direction. Although these activities are extremely important, some empirical studies have shown that they are not well supported by organisations, particularly in the area of Web support. This thesis develops an evaluation methodology called the quot;organisational critical activity Web support evaluation methodology quot; (OCAWSEM) which can be utilised to elicit OCAs from organisations, evaluate whether an organisation acutes; OCAs are being supported by its Web site, and provide guidance on how the organisation can improve its Web site. To develop the OCAWSEM, this thesis reviews the relevant literature and proposes a prototype OCAWSEM. A new iterative case design (ICD) approach has been used in order to further develop the prototype, and then to test the improved OCAWSEM. The selected field cases were eight universities in New Zealand. In total, 43 semi-structured interviews were conducted with senior teams, middle level managers, and Web teams. A systematic review of these universitiesacute Web sites was performed from the provideracutes, rather than the useracutes perspective. The outcome shows that the Developed OCAWSEM is a valid and reliable methodology for the evaluation of the support for OCAs from Web sites in the universities in New Zealand. This thesis provides useful lessons, drawn from the development and testing processes, as the basis from which to develop more specific OCAWSEMs for use in other organisational and industry contexts. Both practitioners and academicians can gain a deeper understanding of the notion of OCAs, better elicit OCAs from management, conduct Web site evaluations, and discuss the support of the Web sites for the OCAs

    Get PDF
During the breakout of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), smart technologies were perceived to provide convenience and assistance for people, enterprises, and government units. Although there is literature maintaining that smart technology can facilitate pandemic strategy and response in ways that are difficult to achieve manually, some other literature indicated that smart technologies were not desirable alternatives to people during this pandemic. MIS education is a career preparation for IT professionals who use smart technology in organizations. IT professionals with MIS education backgrounds may have important roles when facing COVID-19. Moreover, many MIS students will become IT professionals and join the workforce for combatting the pandemic using smart technologies with their background of MIS education. This study intends to analyze smart technology utilization in the confrontation of the COVID-19 pandemic with a qualitative approach. The results could provide reflective insights for MIS education providers, human resource units, IT firms, and organizations confronting COVID-19 outbreaks

Understanding work behaviors in remote work environments during the COVID-19 pandemic: Transaction cost theory perspective

    Get PDF
Previous studies on remote work have not fully understood which roles are suitable for remote work. In our study, we performed the literature review method and developed a conceptual model inspired by transaction cost theory. Additionally, we believe remote work is an optional option in the context of hybrid work during COVID-19. Our conceptual model leads us to believe that remote workers incur some additional perceived costs in the remote work process. We analyze the following four different roles to understand their perceived costs of working remotely: CEO, product manager, database engineer, and administrative employee. We are expected to provide theoretical explanations for what factors influence remote workers\u27 perceived transaction costs

As one of the presentative novel technologies in recent years, Augmented Reality (AR) has gotten the ROC government’s attention, and thereby the AR-related applications have been taken into official account in facilitating citizen life. In this research, first, a sort-out of the definitions and the scope of three types of Realities—AR, VR, MR—will be offered to tell the much more realistic dimension of AR. Under the official road excavation context in X city via observation method, second, specific AR applications will be proposed by illustrating it in the pre-excavation, the excavation, and the post-excavation phases, respectively. By cross-referencing between the official road excavation system and public infrastructure pipeline databases, third, the related data of pipeline maps could endow the current AR positioning with better accuracy and directionality

Social network online games (SNOGs) make players have a positive usage status (such as: entertainment, and enjoyment). Yet, it may also produce a negative usage status (such as: technostress). Users who are new to social network online games are termed novice gamers. Based on the theory of Technological-Personal-Environmental (TPE), this research proposes a framework to explain the adoption of social network online games from the novice players’ perspective, and conducts qualitative in-depth interviews with them to define the key factors for the continuous usage intention on social network online games. This research plans to use online questionnaires and structural equation modeling (SEM) to verify models and hypotheses in order to obtain antecedents of the continuous usage intention for novice players in social network online games and related impact

Discussing IS Alignment Results: A Classification Framework

    Get PDF
Information system (IS) alignment has been one of the most important topics recognized by management since the last decade. However, it is a complex concept. Although some classification frameworks and guidelines have been suggested, they are only useful to understand the nature of alignment constructs and the types of relationships between them. None of them classifies the ways of discussing alignment results which are the final outcomes of an alignment assessment that describe the extent and appropriateness of various constructs to one another. This paper suggests a framework to help understand how alignment results can be discussed, which includes four perspectives. It is expected that the framework can help not only readers understand IS alignment research, but also IS researchers initiate appropriate alignment research projects. Several future research projects based on this framework are also revealed
